Re: Migration 5.1.1 High Cpu

Hi All,

I have updated to U1 and still have it at my site and 2 other companies I am contracted to manage.  The other sites I dare not upgrade yet as they are still on XP.  I have provided any logs VMWare have requested, I have asked to speak to an engineer and was told they are too busy.  I have lost track of the amount of webinars that have taken place.  I originally thought Windows 7 was affected but I think this was because I had too many XP VM's that were affected by the bug, as I have pretty much eliminated XP from one site and Windows 7 does seem to be behaving very well, even though it gave the impression that it wasn't when I had a few hundred XP VM's.

I do not understand how they cannot replicate the problem, I have VMWare Workstation with vSphere and View installed with an eval license and I can replicate the problem, it's not exactly difficult.  Although there seems away froward by upgrading to Windows 7, I just feel let down by VMWare who have done nothing over this problem in helping to resolve it.  When I login to 'My Vmware' my open ticket hasn't been responded to since around January with anything remotely useful.  I fail to see how such a big problem was unknown to senior engineers, had I been told from the beginning that a fix is proving difficult and we advise you to upgrade to Windows 7 then I would have had a lot less grief, instead of waiting for a fix and trying to fire fight, and as mentioned before when I started deploying Windows 7 VM's they were showing similar signs within ESXTOP as the XP ones so it really was a battle with no support from VMWare.

Thanks.

Hi,

I should probably mention I am using APEX cards and it made no difference whether they were installed or not.  I have also taken hosts out of the cluster and reinstalled from the latest version out as opposed to an update and it made no difference.  The only way of solving it was the resolution fix.

Thanks.

Hi,

Which versions of vCO an VC plug-in are you using?

By 'more often then not' do you mean that successive retrievals of 'key' property for one and the same mount object sometimes return valid data and sometimes return null/undefined? Also, could you add some logging to check whether null/undefined key issue happens with some particular mount object or for all mount objects?

The architecture is in another WMI class.

Try adding something like this

$os=Get-WmiObject-computername$vm.Name-classWin32_OperatingSystem
$proc
=Get-WmiObject-computername$vm.Name-classWin32_Processor

$VMInfo
.OS=$os.Caption
$VMInfo
.SP=$os.CSDVersion
$VMInfo
.Architecture=$proc.AddressWidth

vCD Upload timeout

Context: Uploading a 230G OVF to vCD

We got a fail on this and the logs are not clear on cause and effect. Says a timeout but another part says it could not find the session.

Aborted at the 3hr 20m mark.

Coming from a Lab Manager context, we ran into the 7200 second upload time before an adjusted it.

Under vCD the help has

"Transfer session timeout
Miscellaneous
Amount of time to wait before failing a paused or canceled upload task, for example upload media or upload vApp template. This timeout does not affect upload tasks that are in progress.
"

Now the value is 60 minutes.

>> What is not clear is if this is a generic timeout OR a timeout ONLY related to a pause or cancel ?

(the later meaning the upload time is unlimited? however there is a 24hr "maximum timeout")

The last disk copied (PUT/transfer), being the last disk has a timestamp 64 minutes before the abort.

The logs have "Unable to retrieve OVF descriptor" - not sure if this cause or affect.

Also "Resource 005001-5001-W7-CE-BLD730-A-disk1.vmdk not fully transferred yet"

The logging is at two extremes, too little at the GUI level, and too much at the log level.

Thanks

I would like to remove the "Session for user.... timed out" messages which get categorized as Warnings in the View Events Monitoring screen, or reclassify the event as "Info" rather than a "Warning"  I can just care less that someone go timed out.

I am doing a fresh install for Server 2012 and I am only seeing update installers and not a full package for Update 1. Am I just overlooking the download?

From the document section on this Horizon Workspace site:

VMW HORIZON WORKSPACE FAQ.pdf

http://communities.vmware.com/docs/DOC-21749

"Horizon Workspace centralizes access for VMware Horizon
View™ desktops. You can provide access to Windows
applications from the user workspace. Horizon Workspace
also supports Citrix XenApp. This makes it easier than ever
to secure, add or remove desktop assets yet give users the
flexibility to access them from anywhere."

So are you saying that this is incorrect?

Hi All,.

Please help me in reolving the issue.

I am facing the issue in opening vm console from vcenter 5.0.

On only one ESXi 5.0 build :702118 there are 2 vm's both are facing the same issue.

The VMRC console has disconnected.. attempting to reconnect.

other vm's that are running on other ESXi servers can able to see the console.

Issue here is i am facing issue on standalone ESXi server.

I tried,

1. using vsphere client directly connected to ESXi and take console

2. uninstall and install latest version of vsphere client

nothing helped me.

screen shot pasted here.

Answeres are much appreciated.

So are you saying it's only an XP issue from what you've seen so far? I'm fully Windows 7 in my environment.

Thanks,

I am running VC plugin version 5.1.0.446 on vCO 5.1.0 build 2725

When I say 'more often than not', what I mean is this:

Mid last week, I was seeing the issue where the 'key' was coming back null/undefined. I refactered a bit of my script and things started working, so I assumed that I had a logic error somewhere that I had "fixed" during my refactoring. The code then worked for a few days. Then, without changing the code at all (I am 100% positive I did not change anything as I was out of town), the 'key' started coming back as null/undefined again.

As a test, I just:

  • Tried the workflow again, it failed as before on the key attribute
  • Restarted the vCO service via Orchestrator Configuration
  • Tried the workflow again, this time it succeeded

I'll put more logging in but it certainly appears as there may be an issue with either the VC plugin or vCO whereby things stop functioning after some time.

Re: Any upgrading vsphere 5 to 5.1 gotchas with vShield, vCloud and XenDesktop

Hi sreec.  Thanks for the information.  I was told that the XenDesktop connection manager wouldn't add the VMs to the desktop pools.  There was a red x listed next to them.  That's all of the information I was given.  These VMs were the same ones in the pool before the vCenter upgrade to 5.1.  My co-worker said he rolled back the vCenter upgrade and the VMs worked fine.  I asked if the hardware\tools was upgraded as well and they weren't sure.

I'm going to set up a vSphere lab and with 5.0 and test the upgrade with XenApp\Desktop.  I'll have to do some reading regarding the upgrade when vCloud and VSM are involved.

Thanks again for the info!
